Under the canopy, the light turns green. The air is warm; the river, cold against your skin. You pause at a rustle in the leaves. For seven days, the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park become your world—and the noise of everything else begins to fade.

A Costa Rica jungle expedition through Corcovado National Park, the rivers of Tamandua and the waters of Caño Island. Read it slowly. There is a different kind of light in every chapter.

Chapter I · Day 1
Arrival in Drake Bay · Guided night walk
The first thing you notice is the air. Warm, damp, carrying the smell of leaves and salt. If you arrive through Sierpe, mangrove roots slide past the boat before the river opens onto the Pacific. By evening, your bag is down in Drake Bay and the forest has gone dark.
You step beneath the trees with your guide. A torch beam catches rain on a leaf; beyond it, nothing stays still for long. Insects hum. Something calls from a place you cannot see. You stop, listen, and let your eyes adjust. The jungle is much closer than it was in daylight.
Night in Drake Bay · lodging option or your own arrangement

Chapter II · Day 2
Drake Bay → Sirena · Corcovado National Park
Salt spray on your face. The dark line of the coast ahead. At Sirena, you trade the boat's engine for the soft crush of leaves under your boots. A branch moves. Your guide lifts a hand. You stand still, searching the green until a shape begins to separate itself from the forest.
The day unfolds in walks, pauses and the heavy warmth of midday. Later, the day boats turn back towards Drake Bay. You stay. Dinner becomes a circle of stories, with the sounds of the forest rising around you. On a clear night, look up: stars fill the opening above the trees. Tomorrow, you wake here.
Night 1 of the Corcovado expedition · Sirena

Chapter III · Day 3
Sirena → San Pedrillo · Primary forest & waterfall
You wake before the heat, with the forest already calling. Another walk through Sirena in the early light, then the coast slips past on the boat to San Pedrillo. Here, the trunks rise out of sight. Broad roots cross the trail, and daylight reaches the ground in narrow, shifting pieces.
You hear the waterfall before you see it. The sound grows through the trees until the leaves open onto falling water and dark, wet stone. When conditions allow, the freshwater pools offer a cool pause after the trail. By evening, your boots are off at Camp Site San Pedrillo. Beyond camp, the forest fades into layers of black. This is your second night inside its world.
Night 2 of the Corcovado expedition · Camp Site San Pedrillo

Chapter IV · Day 4
San Pedrillo → Los Planes → Drake Bay
The morning starts with yesterday's mud on your boots and the smell of damp earth. You shoulder your bag and follow the trail towards Los Planes. Roots ask you to watch your footing; water somewhere below the leaves keeps drawing your attention away. There are rivers and falls along this last stretch, and time to stop where your guide judges conditions suitable.
Then, little by little, the canopy opens. Lunch, a waiting 4×4, the ride back to Drake Bay. After two forest nights, the sky seems wider. You have an afternoon to loosen your boots, rest tired legs and notice how much of the jungle's sound you are still carrying.
Return to Drake Bay · lodging option or your own arrangement

Chapter V · Day 5
Tamandua Biological Reserve · River canyon & hidden waterfalls
Today, the sound of water leads. In Tamandua, the trail gives way to a river canyon: wet rock, deep shade, the air cooling as the walls draw closer. You move carefully with your guide, finding the next foothold, following the river towards falls hidden beneath the canopy.
Spray settles on your face. The waterfall swallows conversation. Where the route and conditions allow, you ease into a natural pool and feel the day's heat leave your skin. Look up: leaves, rock, a small piece of sky. Later comes a Costa Rican lunch and a hammock at the shelter. For a while, there is nothing to do but lie still and listen to the water.
Canyoning day · return to Drake Bay

Chapter VI · Day 6
Caño Island Biological Reserve · Guided snorkeling
Boots stay behind. The boat carries you out across the Pacific, wind in your face and Caño Island slowly taking shape on the horizon. Then the mask goes on. You lower your face into the water and the noise above the surface falls away.
Your breath finds a rhythm. Light moves across the reef; fish gather, turn and scatter. You scan the blue for a passing turtle or ray, with no way of knowing what the next few metres will reveal. Between time in the water and a beach lunch, the day stretches out. Back in Drake Bay, salt dries on your skin. Your legs have had their rest; your eyes have not.
Snorkeling at Caño Island · return to Drake Bay

Chapter VII · Day 7
Drake Bay → Sierpe · Mangrove wildlife tour
The sea gives way to sheltered water. In Sierpe's mangroves, roots reach into the river and reflections break softly against the boat. Your guide scans the banks and branches. You follow a small movement in the leaves, then another, lingering over details you might have passed without noticing a week ago.
The dock draws nearer. There will be a road again, dry clothes folded into a bag, messages waiting on a phone. For now, one more bend. One more stretch of dark water under the trees. You turn for a last look before the river carries you out.
Mangrove tour · expedition ends in Sierpe
This is the planned route. Weather, sea and river conditions, park access and your guide's assessment may change the sequence or activities. Wildlife sightings and clear skies cannot be guaranteed. Swimming takes place only where permitted and when your guide considers conditions suitable.
Your nights, made clear
Two nights in the forest are part of every option. For the other four nights in Drake Bay, choose a shared room, a private room, or arrange your own stay.
1 night at Sirena and 1 night at Camp Site San Pedrillo, with meals during your Corcovado expedition. These are the same two forest nights whether you choose Basic, Standard or Premium.
Basic · arrange your Drake Bay stay
Already found somewhere you love? Join the full expedition and book the Drake Bay accommodation yourself.
Standard · shared room
Keep your Drake Bay stay simple, with a shared room at Sukia Hostel between the forest and ocean chapters.
Premium · private room
After the trails and salt water, return to your own room in a three-star hotel in Drake Bay.
Which nights are in Drake Bay? Nights 1, 4, 5 and 6. Your private or shared room choice applies to those four nights, not the two forest nights. With Standard or Premium, pickup and drop-off at Drake Bay Airport or Sierpe Dock are included; confirm your arrival route with our team.
Before you book: we confirm lodging availability and the final price for your chosen option. Meals outside the included plan are at your own expense.
Pickup in Sierpe at 11:30 am of the first day or in Drake´s airport.
Not recommended for women on pregnancy period, children under 7 years old, people with special physical conditions and elders over 65 years old.
Corcovado national park has a limit of people that can spend the night or hike during the day, please book ahead of time to save you a space.
Your seven-day expedition: the trails, the nights and the practical details, made clear.
You spend three days on the Corcovado route, with one night at Sirena and one at Camp Site San Pedrillo. The week also includes Tamandua canyoning, Caño Island snorkeling, a guided night walk and Sierpe's mangroves.
It is one connected journey, with time to stay in the forest after the day visitors leave. Explore the seven chapters.
Expect several hours on foot, heat, humidity, mud, roots and uneven ground. Sirena's wildlife walks are slower; the San Pedrillo and Los Planes sections are more demanding. Canyoning involves wet, uneven terrain.
Tell us about your hiking experience, comfort in water and any mobility concerns. For families, share the children's ages and experience. Our team will help confirm whether this route is a good fit before you book.
Every option includes two expedition nights: one at Sirena and one at Camp Site San Pedrillo. These are simple, shared forest stays, not private hotel rooms.
With Basic, you arrange the other four nights in Drake Bay. Standard adds a shared room at Sukia Hostel; Premium adds a private room in Drake Bay. The private-room choice does not change the two forest nights. Compare accommodation options.
Basic includes meals during the Corcovado expedition. With Standard or Premium, the week's plan includes 6 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 3 dinners.
Day 1: dinner. Days 2–3: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Days 4–6: breakfast and lunch. Day 7: breakfast. Meals outside that plan, including dinners on days 4, 5 and 6, are at your own expense.
Arrival can be arranged through Sierpe Dock or Drake Bay Airport. If you are already in Drake Bay, tell us where you are staying. Standard and Premium include pickup and drop-off at those arrival points.
The planned day-seven route finishes in Sierpe after the mangrove tour. Confirm your meeting point, timing and onward connection with our team before buying transport. Transfers to other destinations require a separate quote.
The itinerary includes snorkeling at Caño Island and moving through a river canyon in Tamandua. Tell us before booking if you cannot swim, are nervous in open water or have concerns about wet terrain.
Our team needs to confirm suitability and the arrangements for your group. Swimming takes place only where permitted and when your guide considers conditions suitable; please do not assume every pool or river is safe to enter.
Bring a manageable trail backpack, shoes with good grip, quick-drying clothes, rain protection, a refillable water bottle, a headlamp and swimwear. Protect spare clothes and electronics from rain and spray.
Confirm with us what you need to carry and where your larger bag can stay while you are in Corcovado. Ask about your flight's baggage allowance separately; do not plan to bring a suitcase along the forest trails.
Rain is part of the rainforest experience. Heavy rain, river levels, sea conditions and park restrictions can change the route, timing or an activity.
Follow your guide's assessment and confirm seasonal access for your dates. The itinerary is the planned journey, not a guarantee that every stop will operate in all conditions. Ask how any change would affect your reservation.
No wild animal sighting is guaranteed. More time in the forest gives you more opportunities to observe, but no promise of a tapir, jaguar, turtle or any other species.
Your guide helps you notice sounds, tracks and movement while keeping a respectful distance. The forest, rivers and ocean are the experience—not a fixed wildlife checklist.
Corcovado outings generally have up to 6 guests on overnights and 8 on day trips. Group arrangements can differ for other activities. Ask us to confirm your departure's group size and guiding language.
Tell us about allergies and dietary requirements before booking. We will check what each kitchen can provide; not every request can be accommodated in remote locations.
Send your dates, number of travelers and preferred lodging option through our booking page. Corcovado permits, overnight spaces and accommodation must be checked for your dates.
Your booking starts as a reservation request. Review the confirmed itinerary, inclusions, final price and payment conditions before paying. If you need a different arrangement, contact our team first.
Read our Terms and Conditions and ask our team to confirm the cancellation and date-change conditions for your reservation in writing before paying.
Deposits, park permits and accommodation may have non-refundable conditions. A new date also depends on available permits and rooms; contact us before changing your travel arrangements.
