Day 1: Journey Down the Sierpe River

Our adventure begins with a boat ride down the winding Sierpe River. As we drift past crocodiles sunning themselves on the riverbanks and flocks of colorful birds in the overhanging mangrove trees, we make our way to the secluded village of Drake Bay. After checking into our hotel and enjoying the tranquil views, we meet our guide for an exciting night hike into the enveloping darkness of the jungle. Equipped with flashlights and alert senses, we search for nocturnal creatures beginning their routines as daytime fades away.

Day 2-3: Overnight Hike in Corcovado National Park

The following two days are devoted to exploring Costa Rica’s jewel, Corcovado National Park. Its 100,000 acres contain over half of all species found in the country! We’ll hike 20 km through the primary rainforest to spend a night at the San Pedrillo ranger station, keeping watch for the park’s resident pumas, jaguars, and monkeys along the way. The highlight is plunging into refreshing waterfall pools tucked away deep in the jungle. With no city lights around, the stars are dazzling.

Day 4: Canyoning in Tamandua Park

We’ll be canyoning down Tamandua’s rivers, jumping into hidden waterfall pools, and marveling at the lush canyon landscapes for thrills and scenery. After lunch at a rustic shelter, we’ll relax and nap in hammocks before returning to Drake Bay in the afternoon.

Day 5: Snorkeling Excursion to Caño Island

Today, we’ll don masks and fins and dive into the thriving waters around Caño Island. Snorkeling with sea turtles, rays, and schools of technicolor fish is the perfect way to appreciate Costa Rica’s marine life. After two snorkel sessions and lunch on a deserted beach, we’ll head back to Drake Bay for a free evening.

Day 6: Drake Bay to Sierpe

On our last day, we’ll boat from Drake Bay back to Sierpe, pausing to glide through the area’s extensive mangrove canals, rife with birds and other creatures. It’s the ideal finale for wildlife viewing before concluding our memorable escape in the jungles of Costa Rica.
