The 6-Day Osa
Jungle Expedition

Six days connect wildlife tracking at Sirena, a night near San Pedrillo’s old forest, Sukia’s waterfall canyon and two guided snorkels around Caño Island. Begin with a river arrival and a night walk in Drake Bay; finish reading the mangrove banks on the way back to Sierpe.

  1. Day 1 · Arrive by river & meet your guides

    Travel through Sierpe’s mangroves and along the Pacific coast to Drake Bay. Settle in and meet the Sukia team for the expedition briefing. After sunset, search the forest by torchlight with a guide who helps you notice the insects, frogs and other wildlife active after dark.

  2. Day 2 · Wildlife trails & a forest night

    An early coastal boat takes you to Sirena, Corcovado’s wildlife-rich ranger station. Learn to read tracks, fruiting trees and animal calls as you explore on foot. Continue toward San Pedrillo’s towering forest and rugged trails, then settle into Camp Site San Pedrillo for the night.

  3. Day 3 · Walk out through Los Planes

    Wake to forest calls, pull on your boots and continue through uneven old-growth terrain toward Los Planes. Negotiate roots and slopes, stop for wildlife clues and share a local lunch before returning to Drake Bay. A shower and time to rest prepare you for the canyon ahead.

  4. Day 4 · Swim & descend the waterfall canyon

    Hike into Tamandua’s wet forest and follow the river between waterfalls and natural pools. Scramble over rock, swim and use ropes for controlled descents where the route requires them. Guides assess the water at each section before the return to Drake Bay.

  5. Day 5 · Search beneath the Pacific

    Take the boat to Caño Island for two guided snorkeling sessions. Search around rocks and reef formations for turtles, rays, reef sharks and tropical fish. After time in the water, continue to San Josecito beach for lunch and a break on shore before returning to Drake Bay.

  6. Day 6 · Leave by the mangrove channels

    Return toward Sierpe with a guided wildlife search among the mangroves. The boat slows as your guide scans trunks, overhanging branches and muddy banks for monkeys, sloths, reptiles and birds. Follow each small movement until the channels bring you back to Sierpe.

Four days take you from Sierpe’s mangrove channels to Corcovado’s wildlife trails and into Sukia’s waterfall canyon. Drake Bay is your base between an expedition briefing, a guided night walk, a full forest day and a physical day following the river.

  1. Day 1 · River arrival & a night walk

    Travel by boat through Sierpe’s mangroves and along the coast to Drake Bay. Meet the Sukia team, settle in and prepare for the route ahead. After dark, enter the forest with a guide and search wet leaves and branches by torchlight.

  2. Day 2 · Track wildlife through Corcovado

    Leave early by boat for Sirena’s wildlife trails, where your guide reads prints, feeding signs and calls to help you find animals. Continue to San Pedrillo’s taller forest, roots and freshwater surroundings before returning to Drake Bay. This itinerary returns to your base for the night.

  3. Day 3 · Follow the waterfall canyon

    Hike into Tamandua, then follow the river through natural pools and waterfall sections. Use your hands as well as your feet, swimming, scrambling and descending with ropes where needed. Your guides choose the appropriate route for the conditions before you return to Drake Bay.

  4. Day 4 · A last wildlife search by boat

    On the return to Sierpe, slow down in the mangrove channels and help your guide scan branches, banks and roots. Search for monkeys, sloths, crocodiles and birds in a river ecosystem very different from the forest you walked through. Your expedition ends in Sierpe.

Osa is the last tourism frontier: remote boat routes, limited park permits, strict caps and scarce infrastructure. That means complex logistics and small groups for low impact.

Is it safe?

Trips are guide-led by WFR/SAR teams with radios, route plans and weather calls. Remote ≠ risky when run by professionals. If a route isn’t safe, we don’t run it.

How fit do I need to be?

These are moderate adventures. Longest walking days can reach ~15–20 km with plenty of wildlife stops. Tell us your level and we’ll match you to the right route.

How big are the groups? Can I go private?

Small groups for better sightings and low impact (overnights typically ≤6; day trips ≤8). Private departures are available—ask us.

Can kids or older travelers join?

Not recommended for children under 12. Active families with motivated teens do great. For older you need a strong physic to enjoy the excursion—ask a guide.

How do permits work?

Corcovado has strict daily limits. We check your dates, hold permits if available and confirm within 24h. Early requests = better chances.
