Corcovado National Park Tours FAQ

Sukia Travel’s tours are not designed by people behind desks but by adventure and wildlife specialists who are constantly searching for the next hidden waterfall or unique wildlife niche. Corcovado National Park is one of the most biologically intense places on Earth, and our tours reflect this. The logistics here are complex—only 25 captains are skilled enough to land on these beaches, and spotting animals in this dense jungle requires years of experience. Our guides know how to determine where animals might appear, understanding the specific niches and the time of year when certain fruits attract wildlife. This isn’t a horizontal world like the savannahs of Africa; it’s a vertical jungle with life at every level, extending up to 80 meters. We know the secret caves, the hidden waterfalls, and we’re equipped with optical and rescue gear specifically for jungle conditions. Our tours are crafted for those who seek an authentic connection with nature, guided by experts who know this land intimately.

Safety is our top priority at Sukia Travel. Our guides are certified in Wilderness First Response (WFR) and Search and Rescue (SAR), ensuring that your adventure is as safe as it is thrilling. The Osa Peninsula is wild and unpredictable, but our extensive experience means we can navigate its challenges safely. From avoiding dangerous wildlife to managing difficult terrain, our guides are prepared for any situation, allowing you to immerse yourself in the adventure without worry.

Corcovado is within the Osa Peninsula, most biologically intense place on the planet, meaning there’s no other place where you can see as much wildlife as here. The jungle’s competitive ecosystem has optimized animals to execute their roles with minimal energy, making them smaller and better at hiding. Unlike the horizontal landscapes of the African savannahs, Corcovado’s wildlife exists in a vertical world, where animals can be hidden in any of the jungle’s layers. Our guides know the best trails, but remember, nature here is spontaneous and unpredictable. You’re not just coming to see animals; you’re coming to experience the thrill of finding them in their natural habitat. We promise to take you to the most vibrant areas, but what you’ll encounter will depend on nature’s mood on that day.

The dense jungle and complex logistics of Corcovado make guided tours not just a recommendation but a necessity. Only a select few captains can safely navigate the beaches, and spotting elusive wildlife requires expert knowledge. Costa Rican law mandates that visitors to Corcovado must be accompanied by certified guides, and for good reason—this environment is challenging, and the wildlife is often hidden. Our guides are not only experts in navigating the terrain but also in reading the jungle’s subtle signs. With Sukia Travel, you’re not just visiting Corcovado; you’re accessing a level of expertise that ensures you experience the park’s wonders fully and safely.

Your packing list will vary depending on the specific tour, but generally, it should include a comfortable backpack for hiking, a reusable water bottle, a raincoat, mosquito repellent, a swimsuit, breathable and dry-fit clothing, hiking shoes, and water shoes. After booking, we provide a detailed PDF with everything you need to bring, ensuring you’re fully prepared for your adventure in the jungle.

Exploring Corcovado is not just another trip; it’s an investment in a transformative experience. The Osa Peninsula was the last agricultural frontier, untouched because it was difficult to access and live in. This remoteness has preserved its wildlife and untouched nature, making it the crown jewel of Costa Rica and the tropical Americas. The logistics are complicated, and major tour operators avoid the region due to its challenges. But you’re already flying to Costa Rica, possibly only once—why miss out on the most biologically intense place on the planet? The cost reflects the expertise, safety, and depth of the experience. You’re not just paying for a tour; you’re investing in an unparalleled journey guided by experts who make every moment count.

Due to the complex logistics of operating in Corcovado, our cancellation policy is designed to ensure we can continue offering high-quality experiences. Please review our detailed cancellation policy here before booking. This policy reflects the unique challenges of running tours in one of the most remote and wild areas of Costa Rica.

The only month we do not operate tours is October, when the weather makes conditions too challenging. Otherwise, we operate tours year-round. The dry season, from December to April, is more touristy and usually dry, though nature is unpredictable. The rainy season covers the rest of the year, with daily precipitation ranging from 2 to 4 hours. During this time, the jungle is more vibrant, the sunsets are dramatic, and the experience is more natural and spontaneous. Our tours are designed to let you admire and explore nature without artificial ingredients—where you adapt to nature, not the other way around. We welcome you to embrace the unpredictability and the surprises that Corcovado has to offer.

The difficulty of the hike varies with the tour you choose. Corcovado offers a range of experiences, from moderate day hikes to challenging multi-day treks. Our guides assess your fitness level and interests to tailor the experience to you. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, we ensure that you navigate the trails safely and enjoyably, discovering the park’s hidden wonders along the way.

Sukia Travel stands out because we offer more than just a tour—we offer an authentic, immersive experience designed by specialists who live and breathe the Osa Peninsula. Our deep local knowledge, commitment to sustainability, and focus on small, personalized groups ensure that your journey into Corcovado is transformative. We take you off the beaten path, where nature is raw, wild, and spontaneous. With Sukia Travel, you’re not just another tourist; you’re a part of a journey into one of the last true wildernesses on Earth.
